Good (& Free) Calendar for Windows

Free is good. GOOD and free is harder to find.

As someone who is “calendrically challenged”, it’s hard to remember appointments. The only way, for me, is to use a “countdown” system of reminders. The combination of Google Calendar and OneCalendar isn’t perfect, but it’s the best “lightweight” solution I’ve found so far.

Google Calendar is great. You can get to it from just about anywhere. The problem is, you need a browser to access it. I tend to open up lots of tabs in my browser, which consumes a lot of memory. So there are times when I don’t want the browser open at all. But I still want to see reminders and be able to make appointments.

At the same time, I don’t want to be sifting through a gazillion browser tabs to find the calendar. I like having a little client app I can get to easily, right down there on the Windows task bar.

The best solution I’ve found so far is a combination of Google Calendar and the OneCalendar desktop client. But there are some things you need to know about that combination…

The Good

Google Calendar, of course, is nearly ubiquitous. But as mentioned, I wanted a desktop app. So a client that could connect to my Google calendar seemed like the best of both worlds.
